Tanya is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from East New York Brooklyn, with over 20 years of experience working with NYC’s most vulnerable populations in a variety of private and city institutions. Her social work career began at Spofford Juvenile Detention Center and spans across the spectrum of foster care group homes, residential treatment, juvenile detention centers, ACS prevention programs, outpatient mental health programs, domestic violence programs, and academic settings. She is an innovative professional who utilizes non-traditional modalities of counseling when working with diverse populations.
Tanya is the former Executive Director and Co-Founder of HYPE: Helping Young People Excel, Inc. a not-for-profit organization that used creative expressive therapies to help youth heal from their trauma. She is the founder of KhepeRa Counseling and Consulting Licensed Clinical Social Work Services, a mental health consulting firm that provides individual, group, and family therapy to the Brooklyn community and support to community-based organizations in developing their staff and social-emotional programs for clients. Tanya’s passion is utilizing her skills and experience to design therapeutic programs and facilitate personal and professional development training. Tanya is also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and an EDIT Certified Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapist, who specializes in the treatment of trauma and depression. As a consultant for Brownsville Community Justice Center and The Center for Court Innovation, she supports the Cure Violence Work in Brooklyn’s most vulnerable communities through training and development of their front-line workers.
To expand her clinical skills she is studying Psychodrama, CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Core Energetics, and EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. A former Professor of Psychology and Human Services at Touro College and the City University of New York. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer for New York University’s Silver School of Social Work Advanced Trauma-Informed Clinical Practice Program and has designed an online course, Youth and Trauma: Understanding the Connection Between Bullying and School Shootings. She holds a School Building Leader certification with over 15 years of direct experience working in NYC public high schools. She is currently employed with the NYC Department of Education as a District Administrator responsible for the coordination and development of restorative justice programs in public schools. Tanya is a behavioral health consultant who defines herself as a Mental Mentor, Transformation Coach, and Action Based therapist. She is a vital force in the community; whose life’s purpose is to create opportunities for self-cultivation, healing, and transformation that impact the world
Her ultimate goal as a social worker/educator is to bridge the gap between spirituality and social work practice; and the gap between mental health and education. She is a dynamic speaker and trainer who strongly believes in self-cultivation for personal growth. She, herself, has studied with Iyanla Vanzant and Queen Afua on her quest for self-improvement. She believes that healing and self-cultivation are a journey that never ends and the foundation of success and transformation for all.
